WTF: Modelland

You guys know that I’m a big fan of science fiction and fantasy novels. Right now I’m working on George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Fire and Ice series, which I think is absolutely brilliant. Recently, it’s come to my attention that Tyra Banks, super model and TV celebrity is now going to become an author with her new book Modelland being released in the fall.

So what’s Modelland all about? Here is a synopsis I got from

No one gets in without being asked. And with her untamable hair, large forehead, and gawky body, Tookie De La Crème isn’t expecting an invitation. Modelland-the exclusive, mysterious place on top of the mountain-never dares to make an appearance in her dreams.

But someone has plans for Tookie. Before she can blink her mismatched eyes, Tookie finds herself in the very place every girl in the world obsesses about. And three unlikely girls have joined her.

Only seven extraordinary young women become Intoxibellas each year. Famous. Worshipped. Magical. What happens to those who don’t make it? Well, no one really speaks of that. Some things are better left unsaid.

Thrown into a world where she doesn’t seem to belong, Tookie glimpses a future that could be hers-if she survives the beastly Catwalk Corridor and terrifying Thigh-High Boot Camp. Or could it? Dark rumors like silken threads swirl around the question of why Tookie and her new friends were selected . . . and the shadows around Modelland hide sinister secrets.

Are you ready? Modelland is waiting for you. . . .

….. I’m speechless.   WTF is this about?

Well, on Good Morning America yesterday, Tyra explains details about her new book.   You’ve got to watch this now over at Wow, that’s messed up.

In the video Tyra explain’s that wearing a “smize”, which is a golden wing like treasure that has to be found in Modelland, gives you a 91% chance of entering the all powerful school of super models called “Intoxibellas”. The students in the school, of course, all have magical supermodel powers. The story starts by following 4 wanna-be students who don’t conform the high beauty rigour that is required to enter the school. Looks like they will have to find their smizes first.

I don’t know what to make of this, other than, WTF? The story is strange, but sounds like it’s original and will probably appeal to younger teenage girls.

As for me, you better believe I will be outside chapters in my tent waiting for this. I’ll be the one wearing a smize. Maybe it will give me a 91% chance of getting my hands on Modelland before it sells out.
